Aren't they great? Had a brainwave the other day while reminissing with my sisters about the toys we used to play with when we were younger. There was a lot of Teletubbies and My Little Pony talk, and then I remembered the blocks we all used to play with, just plain dark wood with letters and numbers drawn on, so simple! But they hung around for years because we would always play with them. Learning how to use perspective, shape and weight as you were building and learning how to count and spell all at once. I'm not saying my sisters and I are perfect in either of those aspects, but imagine how horrible we would be without these blocks! So these ones I have created (that are up on Felt and Etsy) have a more modern look to them and I have incorporated some Maori words on some blocks. I've always believed that knowing another language makes you a more interesting person, and I can tell you that the cirriculum for all Early Childhood centres through out New Zealand has Te Reo Maori down as a compulsary subject. It's not a dead culture, it's part of who we are as a country and as a people whether you like it or not, so just embrace it and celebrate it.
The Rugby World Cup kicks off here tonight, get ready for a crazy month everyone!
