Bridesmaids Dresses 2.0 - Day Three

It has been a very productive Day Three of sewing for the upcoming wedding celebrations! Getting quite excited as the dresses begin to look actually wearable...

Picking up where I left off, I finished constructing the top and the skirt separately of all three dresses. But before I finish the structural sewing and begin on finishing, I like to do the sleeves. They are the most stressful part of any garment for me, everything has to be lined up perfectly and there's not much wiggle room for wonky stitching. These sleeves in particular have four pleats at the top, which should shrink the top of the sleeve seam to fit the armhole perfectly. Usually you do the sleeves after the dress body has been assembled, but I prefer to sneak the sleeves in first, depending on the fabric you use the full garment could be quite heavy and pull the fabric away from the needle while you sew resulting in crooked seams and stressed fabric. Two of the three sleeves went on without a hitch, I'm saving the last dress til a little later because it's the smallest of the three and I want to check the size one last time before I invest anymore time in the last dress.

Looking cute, huh?

So I carried on with the first two dresses and stitched the belt to the top, then the skirt and finished the seams with the overlocker. Looking pretty good so far! Next step, get the ladies to try on their dresses so I can see how they look and if I need to make any adjustments. After that, putting in the zips and hemming. Nearing the end already - might break my 10 day record! Taking a family day tomorrow but then I'm right back into it, hope you all have a great weekend.
