Behind the Fabric

So you want to know where I get my adorable fabric from huh? Would you believe it is all recycled? That's right, all that fabric that you don't want anymore and you are tempted to throw away, that you put up on TradeMe because you know it really is beautiful and maybe someone will appreciate it and make a garment that someone will treasure... Has probably been bought by me! All those clothes you no longer want and send to the Sallies... Yep I buy them too! And cut them up and make things like this:



I have one more source that is filled to the brim with treasures that (almost) never go out of style. My mother. An incredible woman who taught me to sew, who won competitions for her garments, has collected so many fabrics, thread, zips and a good sized jar of buttons over the years. She has supported Driessa by giving me some of her lovely old pieces, to help me make this...

I love each item of clothing I create, each one a little more than the last. But some fabrics will always stay in my memory because of how I came to own them. The stories behind the dresses and shirts you wear, you don't feel them when you wear something anyone can get their hands on. Anyway, enough procrastinating, back to the sewing desk!
