Menswear Panic (part two)

Progress!

Coat has been cut out and most of it has been sewn together. I'm not getting through it as fast as I would like, I'm planning to head off to a few markets soon so other sewing projects have been more urgent. And it has been so sunny here lately that my friend really doesn't need a new coat, the holey one he's got has ventilation and I am curious to see if he gets funny tan lines...

Back to the coat! I started with the hood, because I really wanted to get it right and it came together quite well, if not a little too big. I really wanted his head to fit! My brain didn't like trying to figure out pockets. Standard rectangular pockets with a flap, but this one had three layers (one of woolen coat fabric and two of lining) and an opening on the side for a patch pocket under the flap pocket, to create a kind of double pocket. I felt invincible once they were completed, I got carried away and made a fancy double welt on the inside lining for his secret pocket. I know he is probably just going to wreck it. Why do men need so many pockets anyway?

So after all that, I sewed all the structural seams together and completed the armhole seams on the lining too. Pinned the hood to the outer coat and I am just a little too scared to actually sew it. My machine likes to throw tantrums if I make it sew fabrics that carry a little too much weight. But after I man up and sew that seam, then it is time to attach lining and then zips + toggles and hems! Nearly at the end of the tunnel... Wish me luck.
